MT - Yellowstone

Did a whirlwind trip through part of Yellowstone today. I hope the pics come out. We sort of went off the official trail to a hill to overlook Greater Prismatic and Excelsior- from above it was great. Can't see it as well at eye level.

Saw old faithful of course. Almost no one was in the park so we had just about all the sites to ourselves. When we got to Old Faithful there was no one on the benches and even after waiting there was still plenty of places to sit. Some places there were only a few cars. Great for us to see a lot in a little amount of time.

Drove over to the Lamar Valley to see Bison. We saw lots of wildlife.

The people I met up with today are very interesting and when there wasn't much to see conversation definitely kept me entertained. Silly humans.

Off to the badlands bright and early tomorrow morning. So far on this trip I've had little sleep (a few hours) and very little food. Maybe I'll shed some weight. Tawnya doesn't think I have much to lose though and is worrying. I'm exhausted perhaps I'll sleep tonight but I can hear a train...Where are my secluded woods with no sound but treefrogs?

caught it on the flight out to MT.

I can add Ghostbusters and Star Trek to the list as well as a reference to an Inconvenient Truth.

Monsters vs Aliens, spoofed sci-fi movies

If you the love sci-fi genre, you have to check out this movie. It spoofed or referenced so many movies. It is to the sci-fi world what Shrek was to fairy tales.

Only have seen it once and when I took the kids no one clued me in it was a spoof so I probably missed a few things at the very beginning. Here are some of the movies I saw them spoofing/referencing. What movies did I miss?

Thunderbirds (very subtle quick nod - FAB everyone)
Red Dwarf
Spaceballs
Rambo
X-files
War of the Worlds
This Island Earth
Mars Attacks
Clone Wars
Independence Day
ET
The Day the Earth Stood Still
When Worlds Collide
Creature from the Black Lagoon (I love Link)
Attack of the 50 ft Woman (49' and 11" - they slay me)
Blob
The Fly
Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind (one of the funniest scenes in the movie when Pres Colbert starts playing Axel F)
2001
MIB
Wizard of Oz (I actually didn't catch this one)
Mothra (so awesome)
Dr Strangelove (the underground control base was perfect)
Star Wars

Its nagging me - what did the control room of the Antartic Station FAB220 spoof? This was before I realized it was a spoof. And what were the 2 guys names? I'm sure it wasn't random. And the call name aka this is Red Dwarf to Supernova....what movie is Supernova from?

If you watch the movie, be prepared for a good laugh. :)

Hurray. I'm going on a dino dig this summer. I can't wait. It should be really fun. A trip to MT to the Hell Creek formation. A little digging, lots of hiking. I'm going to be so exhausted but I'm looking forward to it.

I've never traveled alone and I'll miss my family but this will count toward my degree. Perhaps they will appreciate me all the more after I come home...

Gypsies in my head

I think I shall lose my mind. I have no time to write and now I have a new story forming in my head. What am I to do? I guess I shall have to sketch some quick notes and hope that after my degree is done I will have time to revisit it and really write. Anyways, she's a gypsy in England, not sure what part of the 1800s yet, that part is not clear to me. It borders on fantasy. She knows herb lore and can 'dream' through the eyes of a hawk or owl.

Enough about her. We were without power for 6 days. I got pretty good cooking on the woodstove. I even made pizza on it. And it was awesome if I dare say so myself.

Christmas was nice and we had a quiet New Years. Too windy for a bonfire. Oh well.

I hope everyone is well.
